Slumdog child star gets new home

Azharuddin Ismail and his mother in their new homeSlumdog Millionaire child star Azharuddin Ismail, whose hut in the slums was bulldozed recently by Mumbai city authorities, has been given a temporary new home by the film’s producers through the Maharashtra Housing Authority Development Agency (MHADA). The 250-square foot one-bedroom first floor apartment is valued at $50,000 and will house Ismail, his parents and brother until the permanent home that Slumdog director Danny Boyle promised them is found through the Jai Ho! foundation. The home will be owned by the trust set up for the movie’s minor stars until Ismail turns 18, when he’ll get full possession, as long as he finishes school. “He has to complete an education. We are very clear about that,” a spokesman for the trust said. His co-star Rubina Ali, 9, whose family hut was also demolished, will be getting a new home as well. The trust says they’re “actively looking” for a new home for her and her family.

250 sq ft, wow, that is beyond tiny for 4 people. I know it is the way it is over there, but really should make us count our blessings.

At least their earnings WERE put in trust for them…good thing! For very good reasons such as this! If that trust had not been set up, their money would have been long gone by now and these kids AND their families would be completely homeless.

    its about time
in fact the gov’ts there should do more for the families there then what little they try to portay they will do.
i suppose this will make them a target of crime or even deth threats now the poor kids, have so little chance of getting to and through school, so often forsed to work and never enough time for th=eri full education.
Themm and the others in their country were trated unfairly by the showes producer and now their own govt. who greed wants its all.
