The Dark Knight Rises breaks box office record

Box office figures were delayed when major studios decided to hold off reporting the grosses due to last Friday’s attack on moviegoers at a midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises in Aurora, Colorado. Despite the tragedy, which studios feared would keep audiences away, The Dark Knight Rises grossed $161 million, the largest opening for a non-3D film. Exhibitor Relations box office analyst Jeff Bock said, “I think it’s safe to say it [would’ve made] $15 million-$20 million more if [the shootings] had never happened.” The newest Batman movie earned a 4.1 star rating out of 5 from Tribute.ca users. Last weekend’s top movie, the animated family flick Ice Age: Continental Drift, came in second this weekend, grossing another $20.2 million and earning a 3.8 star Tribute.ca user rating. The Amazing Spider-Man was pushed to third with $10.7 million and 3.6 stars. The R-rated comedy Ted dropped one spot to fourth, banking $10.2 million and getting 4.3 stars from Tribute.ca users. Rounding out the top five was the animated family film Brave, earning an additional $5.8 million and 3.9 stars. Of note was Magic Mike, which made $4.3 million for a total take of $102 million, marking Channing Tatum‘s third movie to earn over $100,000 this year.

The Lost City, starring Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum, is a lighthearted romantic adventure that is sure to make you both laugh and swoon.
Dark Knight was amazing. That’s not a strong word either. WB needs to pay Christopher Nolan a trillion dollars to at least write movies and then film the ones he sees fit to direct. The guy is a cenematic genius. Also, this movie couldn’t be as strong as it was without the amazing actors. When that many Oscar winners or nominees agree to appear in a superhero movie and do such a good job that people cry at the end, then they are doing something right. Next to the Heath Ledger acting, I think everyone steped it up a notch for this film. Michael Caine, at 79yrs young, way to go!
Right there with you C-Dub, I thought it was awesome and that really is a testiment to Nolan, crafting such a brilliant trilogy and fantastic finale.
The haters will go on hating but for those of you who are interested don’t go in trying to compare this to The Dark Knight as I think this a different chapter and should be judged on it’s own merits.I think I’m not out of line in saying Caine deserves best supporting actor.
Totally agree C-Dub. I was skeptic back when Batman begins came out, I still went and saw it in theaters and I was glad I did. It just kept getting better. TDKR wasn’t quite as good as Dark Knight was though but still a great finish to the trilogy. Although Hardy did a great job playing Bane, the character wasn’t as colorful as the Joker but still entertaining. We didn’t see Batman quite enough but the twist at the end was awesome.
