J.K. Rowling to bring Harry Potter to the stage

Harry Potter fans who have long enjoyed the books and films can now enjoy Harry Potter on stage in London’s West End. Author J.K. Rowling announced that there will be a stage play of the acclaimed novel focusing on the boy wizard’s life before he began his journey at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She said in a statement that the play will “explore the previously untold story of Harry’s early years as an orphan and outcast.” The 48-year-old author will act as a co-producer for the show alongside British theater producers Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender. She added: “Over the years I have received countless approaches about turning Harry Potter into a theatrical production, but Sonia and Colin’s vision was the only one that really made sense to me, and which had the sensitivity, intensity and intimacy I thought appropriate for bringing Harry’s story to the stage.” Neither a writer nor director have been attached to the show yet, but the play is expected to open within two years.
