Desmond Harrington biography

Desmond Harrington

Date of Birth: October 19, 1976

Desmond Harrington fell in love with films when he was a kid, and decided early on that he wanted to be an actor. After high school, he decided that rather than go to college, he would take acting classes in Manhattan with John Strasberg, and he took odd jobs as a bartender, laborer, landscaper and construction worker to support himself.

Harrington landed his first role in a motion picture when director Luc Besson cast him as Aulon, a leading role, in The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc (1999). The film led to his landing three more roles in features in 2000, including Drop Back Ten, which premiered at the 2000 Sundance Festival. Quickly becoming a hot prospect, Harrington landed roles in three more films the next year, including Penny Marshall's Riding In Cars With Boys(2001), starring Drew Barrymore.

His star continues to rise, with a small role in the Vietnam war drama We Were Soldiers (2002), starring Mel Gibson, and a larger role in the thriller Ghost Ship (2002). He also made his television debut in 2002, with a starring role in Steven Spielberg's 10 part UFO series, Taken.
