Wonderfully thoughtful movie - man versus nature - and his fight for survival - excellent wordless acting - the shots kept flashing back in my mind long after the movie was over!

Totally believable! Demonstrates how even when you do everything right and are completely prepared, Mother Nature and Lady Luck can really test your patience. Amazed at his ingenuity and will to survive.

If you like sailing, you'd probably give this movie four or five stars. If you're not so keen on sailing, the camera swiming back and forth to give you the feeling of sea sickness won't delight you so much.

All Is Lost is a beautiful film. I'll just say it. It was like a mix of Gravity, Life of Pi and Cast Away all mashed into an incredible cinematic masterpiece. The cinematography was breathtaking, with some scenes under the water. There is barely any dialogue at all. Like, Robert Redford said literally a few sentences throughout an hour and 45 minutes. Speaking about Robert Redford, wow. He was incredible. If he doesn't get a Best Actor nomination, I will go nuts. He held this entire movie, and made it incredibly realistic. We know absolutely nothing about his character. We don't even know his name. I love this fact, because it makes him more relatable. He could be anybody. The story is

Chandor loads this little, minimal movie to the gunwales, so even if it feels a little thin for the duration, the content sinks in and lingers. We’re forced to ponder the meaning of the ending, and whether we’re better off in a state of denial, or surrendering to the black abyss.

Even though Robert Redford is the only person acting with few words, his character in the movie to survive against all odds is incredible. My 9-year old daughter finds the finale so humorous the most and so do I. Unexpected turn of event indeed!

The star power of Robert Redford carries the movie onward even without use of ongoing dialogue. A testament to great acting as he maintains the audience's interest because he makes it all seem real and natural on the screen. A couple of humorous moments. Well done.

This movie isn't for everyone, but if you're looking for something a little different, something smarter than what's been coming out of Hollywood, then this is the one for you. I thought it was better than Captain Phillips. Redford is fabulous, and although there is no setup to his character, no backstory, nothing to "like" about him, he slowly draws you in and you will be on the edge of your seat. But be patient! A number of people left before it really picked up. It's worth the wait. Not sure how I feel about the final moment of the film... there was a collective gasp of frustration from the audience. You'll know what I'm talking about when you see it:)

Gripping. As a "solo survivor" movie, I thought it was less spectacular but overall a better movie than Gravity. It was stripped down to the essentials.

Because it was released just a couple of weeks after "Gravity", it's hard to not think of the space movie when watching "All is Lost", even if a more apt comparison might be "a stripped down "Life of Pi" without a tiger or philosophical lessons." Both films involve a single person's quest for survival against elements beyond control. "Gravity" put a female doctor up against the vastness of space, while "All is Lost" puts an elderly man against the harshness of the ocean. Both have no communication with other humans (after a certain point in the film, anyway), and both have to use smarts and training to survive. The premise for "All is Lost" really is that simple. As an avid single handed sailor, there are way too many unbelievable events to make this movie enjoyable. Redford is ok, but the movie itself is totally unrealistic.

I thought Robert Redford gave up acting to become an uninformed activist. This is simply a remake of Castaway. I gave it one star because I really liked Castaway.
