In a small town in Alaska, an outsider (Christopher Abbott) wanders onto the scene and bursts into a local bar, where he kills three men having a friendly card game. Although he takes money from the cash register, the murderer is a professional hitman.
Using the name Elwood, the hitman checks into a local hotel run by Sam (Jon Bernthal), a former rodeo champion whose imposing physical presence conceals a troubled soul. The two men strike up an uneasy friendship.
Later, Elwood goes to collect his money from Lila (Imogene Poots), the woman who ordered the hit in order to knock off her husband. The problem was that she didn't want the other two men killed in the process, which has left one of her friends a widow.
