Alice in Wonderland’s Johnny Depp surprises fans at Comic-Con

By Tribute on July 24, 2009 | 13 Comments

alice_in_wonderlandThe crowd erupted in ecstatic surprise to see Johnny Depp who showed up at Disney’s 3D presentation of Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland. Depp walked on stage, waved and then exited with Burton. But that was all it took to create some major hysteria from the crowd.

Burton said the Alice in Wonderland film, a 3-D peek through the looking glass, is his most challenging project to date.

“It’s the first time we’ve done a lot of green screen,” he said. “It starts to freak you out after a while.”

According to the LA Times, the footage, which prominently featured Depp’s Mad Hatter, highlighted the fantastic whimsical images Burton has assembled for the movie, created using a hybrid of live-action and animation and other techniques. “John and I worked together many times, but he’s never done a character with orange hair,” Burton joked. “We scalped Carrot Top and took his hair. We realized once we got into it that we picked out every image from TV and cinema of red hair and it’s quite a distributing thing—from Bozo onward.”

Oh great Johnny Depp plays the Mad Hatter, hhm same charactor in Willy Wonka, Pirates of Caribean and now Alice….why does he make them all seem a little “flamboyant”

Absolutely LOVE this trailer! Will be purchasing this movie for sure, I am a huge Tim Burton fan, have most of his movies, he is brilliant….

Depp appears to be filling this role perfectly, no surprises there from such a talented actor with a distinct flair for the flamboyant…

I’m starting to think that Johnny Depp and Tim Burton are one and the same like a modern day Dr.Jekyll and Mr.Hyde… Burton should retell that story!

Not sure if I’ll go see this or not. Might just wait for the dvd.

I’m surprised someone else (like holly) noticed this too – Depp does looks a lot like Elijah Wood in the poster.

Anyway, I will pass on this film – I’m so sick of Burton/Depp collaborations and American McGee’s Alice is my favourite take on Alice in Wonderland.

I just had to come back and look to see if anyone agreed with me. Thanks to Deadpool5 and Moviefan. I had the same reaction as Moviefan. I nearly fell off my chair when I read it was JD. I worry Elijah may have suit for copywrite infringement on his face! LOL!
