American Hustle danced its way to victory as the film scored a trio of awards at the 71st annual Golden Globe Awards that took place last night. David O. Russell’s crime caper took home the award for Best Comedy or Musical while Amy Adams and Jennifer Lawrence earned awards in the lead and supporting actress categories, respectively. This places American Hustle as the front-runner for the Oscars, with the nominations to be announced this Thursday. Presumed to be a favorite this award year and a leading contender, 12 Years a Slave won only one award, albeit the top award for the best drama film. The only other film to receive more than one award was Dallas Buyers Club. The film’s noteworthy actors Matthew McConaughey and Jared Leto walked away with best lead actor and supporting actor in the drama category. Departed television drama Breaking Bad, which was an audience favorite, won the best TV drama award while Bryan Cranston was honored with the best actor trophy for his role as Walter White. For her powerhouse performance in Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine, Cate Blanchett won best actress in a drama film. Iconic director Woody Allen was given the lifetime achievement award and actress Diane Keaton accepted it on his behalf. ~Marriska Fernandes
