Anne Hathaway and James Franco – Oscar hosts!

By Alexandra Heilbron on November 30, 2010 | 5 Comments

Anne Hathaway, 28 and James Franco, 32, have been chosen to host the upcoming Oscars. They’ll take over from last year’s hosts, Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin. Academy Awards producers Bruce Cohen and Don Mischer said in a statement: “James Franco and Anne Hathaway personify the next generation of Hollywood icons … We hope to create an Oscar broadcast that will both showcase their incredible talents and entertain the world on 27 February. We are completely thrilled that James and Anne will be joining forces with our brilliant creative team to do just that.” This will be the first time since 1986 that the awards will be hosted by two people not known as standup comedians. From 1988 to 2008, the hosts were always solo comics, but that changed in 2009 when actor Hugh Jackman was chosen to host. The 83rd Academy Awards will be held February 27, 2011 at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California.

Hey! that’s the day I was christened!

I don’t see what people see in Anne Hathaway. She’s just way too OK with me, that’s all. I’d hardly call her an icon, even an up coming icon. Franco… I like more. I think he’s a fantastic actor and an interesting person.

Anne performed at last year’s Oscars, and I was surprised to find out that she’s a really good singer as well. James Franco is great – I’ll be interested to see how they do. So do u think this was a good choice?

Wait, it reads “this will be the first time since 1986 that two people who are not known as stand up comedians will host?” When was the last time anyone saw Alec Baldwin doing stand up?

Anyway I think that Steve Martin and Alec were fantastic and should have stayed on as hosts, but I also like to see what others can do.

My favourite host so far was Hugh Jackman, that guy has charm to spare!

I’m looking forward to the Oscars, there were a lot of good films this year.
