Canadian actress cast as Casey Anthony

Casey Anthony is coming to TV. Canadian actress Holly Deveaux has been cast as the Florida mother accused of murdering her two-year-old daughter, Caylee Anthony (pictured at left) in the Lifetime TV movie about the trial. Actresses like Kristen Stewart, Jennifer Love Hewitt and Alyssa Milano were reportedly considered for the role before it ultimately went to the newcomer, who has appeared in Canadian TV shows like Baxter, Less Than Kind, Lost Girl and Flashpoint. Based on prosecutor Jeff Ashton’s book, Imperfect Justice, the movie will focus on the attorneys behind the highly publicized 2011 trial. Several notable television veterans have signed on for the flick including Rob Lowe who will play Ashton, Lost’s Elizabeth Mitchell as prosecutor Linda Drake Burdick and The Office’s Oscar Nunez as defense lawyer Jose Baez. While the film will follow the events of the trial and the public outrage following the not-guilty verdict, screenwriter Allison Cross says it’s not meant to further attack Anthony, telling the Orlando Sentinel, “It’s not our intention to make a movie that tries Casey Anthony for the third time. She was tried in court and she was tried by public opinion.” ~Kyle Sharp
