Canada’s Avril Lavigne has traded in her Chuck Taylors for stilettos, transforming herself from a skater girl into a punk princess. Her new album, The Best Damn Thing, strays away from the mellow sounds of her previous release, Under My Skin, and offers up a heaping plate of upbeat and edgy clap-happy songs with cocky, but playful lyrics like in her first single “Girlfriend,” which she recorded in seven other languages. –Maricel Dicion
