Warner Bros. announced this week that Secretariat star Diane Lane, 45, has signed on to play Martha Kent, the only mother Clark Kent has ever known, in the new Superman movie to be directed by Zack Snyder. Snyder stated, “This was a very important piece of casting for me because Martha Kent is the woman whose values helped shape the man we know as Superman. We are thrilled to have Diane in the role because she can convey the wisdom and the wonder of a woman whose son has powers beyond her imagination.” Lane will star with British actor Henry Cavill, 27, who was announced earlier this year as Clark Kent/Superman. Superman: Man of Steel is slated for release in December 2012.

Too hot for the role… the fans demand betty white!
The role does need a more grandmotherly type.
Maybe this is going to be a little bit younger Superman, like almost post “Smallville” Superman.
where Batman Begins was basically his first year as Batman this could be similar and be like this First year as Superman.
Like Martha Kent on Smallville is still pretty young she is 50ish on that. so this might be following that Idea.
Ive had a crush on this woman since she was in the Outsiders
Good choice ! Julianne Moore would have been a good one, or even the actress who plays Clarks mother on Smallville, she does a great job on there .
