Ex-stripper voted off American Idol

By Alexandra Heilbron on March 13, 2008 | 16 Comments

David HernandezLast night, 24-year-old David Hernandez was the first of the top 12 to say goodbye to American Idol after receiving the lowest amount of votes this week. He received negative feedback from the judges on Tuesday night after singing “I Saw Her Standing There” from the Lennon/McCartney songbook. Hernandez was much talked about in the press in the past week when it was revealed he used to work as a stripper at a club with a “mostly male” clientele. He didn’t refer to that on the show however, saying his life outside Idol involved going to school and working at a pizza restaurant. Also in the bottom three were Kristy Lee Cook, 24, who was criticized for giving a country flavor to “Eight Days a Week” and Syesha Mercado, 21, of Florida.

Oh Well….There are better singers anyway

    I’m happy for him.

He would have done much better on the show if he stuck to working at a pizza restaurant, instead of working as a stripper. These things don’t mix very well especially on TV.

David Cook’s going to win it all. He ROCKS!!! I just hope the Mormon/Mini Crispin Glover Sound-Alike (David Archuleta) doesn’t win it.

Well, perhaps if he’d stripped for women…..

“his life outside Idol involved going to school and working at a pizza restaurant” working the pepperoni line for sure!

Yuck, Jenny, you just turned me off pizza!

i actually thought he was a pretty decent singer. i thought that kristy lee cook should have been kicked off. and as for david archuletta, he is one of the best on the show this season! and just because some people don’t have that kind of talent doesn’t give you the right to talk garbage!

Different strokes for different folks I gather but I have never quite understood why people watch this show. It is so tired already churning out people who do not stand the test of time.

I watched the first season with Kelly Clarkson and a bit of the season with Rubin Studdard and 2 shows with Fantasia and nothing else. Ryan Seycrest is an inigma that I just cannot understand. When I have watched in the past and he comes on the screen, I immediately turn the channel or get up and do something until he is gone.

Further, almost all winners on this show except Kelly, Fantasia and Carrie Underwood have been thrown under the bus and their contracts terminated in less than a year. So for me, this is a waste of my viewing time. Many people win because of their “popularity” and not because of true talent. Look at Taylor Hicks…I mean he went from a record contract to making commercials for American trucks, to being dumped by his record label to now “out of sight, out of mind!” And please do not even get me started about Sanjaya – who I could only stomach watching once! A truly sad state of affairs and for me, there are better shows to watch. My humble opinion but I do not slam anyone out there who enjoys watching it. So I have not watched this show for the past 2 years and have not watched this season once and do not plan on it. Ta ta for now. Peace!

Ok Velvet, to each his own. But if you dislike the show so much, why the very “wordy” opinion post?

guess he gets to go back to his day job, er, nighttime job.

“Kristy Lee Cook, 24, was criticized for giving a country flavor to Eight Days a Week.”

Here’s hoping “Idol” trashes the Springsteen Songbook next…

  14. Melba Toast • March 16, 2008 @ 10:51 PM

He looks too much like Bob Dole to be a stripper.

“Taylor Hicks went from a record contract to making commercials for American trucks…”

Taylor Hicks is the best thing to happen to rock ‘n’ roll since Elvis.

It hasn’t been a good week for Paul McCartney. Not only does he find out he owes his ex-wife fifty-million dollars, he has to sit by as AMERICAN IDOL massacres his best-loved songs. 🙁
