George Clooney uses paycheck to spy on war criminal

George Clooney is using “most” of the money he earns for appearing in Nepresso coffee commercials to spy on a Sudanese dictator. He told the Guardian: “Most of the money I make on the commercials I spend keeping a satellite over the border of North and South Sudan to keep an eye on Omar al-Bashir [the Sudanese dictator charged with war crimes at The Hague]. Then he puts out a statement saying that I’m spying on him and how would I like it if a camera was following me everywhere I went and I go ‘well welcome to my life Mr War Criminal.’ I want the war criminal to have the same amount of attention that I get. I think that’s fair.” The dictator, who is facing charges of genocide and committing war crimes in Darfur, recently fled Nigeria to avoid arrest.

Clooney’s spy program, called the Satellite Sentinel Project (SSP), tracks the movements of Sudan’s army and warns civilians when an attack is imminent. Clooney protested (and was arrested, as seen in file photo above) last year at the Sudanese Embassy in Washington D.C. against the “government attacking and killing its own innocent men, women and children,” Clooney said at the time. Now THAT is using your wealth for good. We need more higher ups spied on the way they try to spy on us (mostly) innocent civilians. My respect for Clooney, already extremely high, grows even more.

This could turn into an obsession and conspiracy issues that might not be there..what proof does he have? Where does he get this info? Arent people proven innocent until a court of law proves otherwise? So he just assumes the big picture? Is he interferring with Governments actions? He can also be a target of terrorism himself. He’s not a superhero.

@Check it–if you read the article it says, “the Sudanese dictator charged with war crimes at The Hague,” so I don’t think it involves Clooney having “conspiracy issues.”

I think Clooney is putting his wealth to good use, more than most celebrities would do.

I am very impressed with Mr. Clooney’s tactics. He has the money to fund this kind of a serious (legal) operation, and makes me realize we all have to do SOMETHING. One person can make a difference. He’s shaming / scaring / hunting a criminal and his army. That makes George my new hero.

Very descriptive post, I liked that bit. Will there be a
    part 2?
