1917 Movie PosterGolden Globe winner for Best Motion Picture – Drama, 1917 scored the number one spot at the box office this weekend.

After expanding to theaters across the country this past Friday, Sam Mendes‘ WWI drama finally took down reigning champ Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, earning $36.5 million for a domestic total of $39.2 million. Filmed to look like one continuous shot, the immersive film follows two young soldiers given a crucial but seemingly impossible mission.

After three weekends at the top, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker dropped a spot to second place. The film broke records during its reign and now sits at a domestic total of $478.2 million and $989.6 million worldwide. The film pulled in an additional $15.1 million in its fourth weekend at the box office.

Jumanji: The Next Level dropped a spot to third place in its fifth week at the box office. Although the sequel topped Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle‘s opening weekend, it’s still looking to beat the previous film’s total domestic take of $404.5 million. This weekend Jumanji: The Next Level brought in an additional $14 million, pushing its domestic total to $257.1 million.

Like a Boss debuted in fourth place this weekend.  Starring Tiffany Haddish and Rose Byrne as best friends and owners of a cosmetics company who take on an industry titan (Salma Hayek), the raunchy comedy earned $10 million in its first weekend in theaters.

Rounding out the top five was another new wide release – Just Mercy, based on a true story and starring Michael B. Jordan as a young Civil Rights lawyer who takes on the case of a black man (Jamie Foxx) on death row for killing a young white woman in Alabama.  It also earned $10 million in its first weekend in wide release.  ~Emily Chavez
