Ben Affleck’s biggest regret is Jennifer Garner divorce

Ben Affleck
Ben Affleck is finally opening up about his highly buzzed about departure from DC’s upcoming The Batman film.

In an interview with The New York Times, Affleck revealed that he struggled with sobriety and his divorce from Jennifer Garner, which led him to step down from the project. He said: “You’re trying to make yourself feel better with eating or drinking or sex or gambling or shopping or whatever. But that ends up making your life worse. Then you do more of it to make that discomfort go away. Then the real pain starts. It becomes a vicious cycle you can’t break. That’s at least what happened to me.”

He explained: “I drank relatively normally for a long time. What happened was that I started drinking more and more when my marriage was falling apart. This was 2015, 2016. My drinking, of course, created more marital problems.”

Affleck’s marriage to Jennifer Garner ended in 2018. He said, “The biggest regret of my life is this divorce. Shame is really toxic. There is no positive byproduct of shame. It’s just stewing in a toxic, hideous feeling of low self-worth and self-loathing.”

In 2015, it was announced that Affleck would be co-writing, directing and starring in The Batman. He had even played the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), and a cameo in Suicide Squad (2016). But he wasn’t looking too pleased during press interviews. Remember the Sad Affleck meme that went viral in 2017? Later that year, it was announced that Affleck would be stepping down as Matt Reeves took the reins as director and last year it was announced that Robert Pattinson would don the cape as a younger Bruce Wayne. Ben reprised his role in Justice League (2018), but officially quit the DC universe last year.

In his interview with the Times he recalled, “I showed somebody The Batman script. They said, ‘I think the script is good. I also think you’ll drink yourself to death if you go through what you just went through again.'”

While Ben will no longer play the Dark Knight, he will be seen in four other films this year: The Way Back, which follows a divorced basketball coach in recovery for alcohol addiction; the Netflix film The Last Thing He Wanted; The Last Duel, which he co-wrote with Nicole Holofcener and Matt Damon; and the psychological thriller Deep Water. The Batman is scheduled to release June 25, 2021.

Kudos to Ben for acknowledging his problems. Will be interesting to see an actor known for sucking blood to play a super hero role.

Good riddance, now there is a decent actor playing “Batman” When I saw it, I was giving Affleck the benefit of the doubt.
The second one he was in, I sure didn’t hurry to see it.
Lousy actor, I don’t care what he’s moaning about.
    Everybody has problems !!!!!!!!!!

Good for him for taking the advice knowing how much he struggled with alcoholism. I did like seeing him play Batman tho

Sorry Ben, too bad he can’t turn back the clock by regretting. Ben did a fine job as Batman, but I can’t wait to see Rob’s younger version of Bruce Wayne! June 25, 2021 is in my books!

Not a fan of Superhero Pics. Could not see Ben as Batman.

I have always liked Ben Affleck’s movies and also have great respect for his honest self reflection about his alcohol addiction. It is an illness that has ruined lives of many and Ben is brave to be public about his journey to improve his health. I wish him happiness, acceptance of himself as a person deserving of a sober life full of love

I think Ben’s talents are behind the camera
    More directing!!!

I really really enjoy his directing! The Town and obviously Argo are fantastic examples. Regarding roles, I find them a little hit an miss. Regarding Batman, I actually did not mind him in the role and he did get in fantastic shape and the fight scenes were great. He put in the time and paid his dues to be the Caped Crusader and he will forever be linked to the Dark Knight.

oops, I pressed submit too soon. Regarding his marriage and his alcohol abuse…he does seem to have a bit of an addictive personality (remember his gambling addiction too?).. It’s good that he can recognize it as a first step to fixing the problem. It’s just too bad it was too late to save his marriage.

Everyone has their own opinion , the good and bad ,and everyone has their favorite actors or actress. I think you were great as Batman , but its time to leave him in the past, and for you to move forward. You are a great actor. Also move past the bad opinions of people . Those are people that just want to bring you down. Keep your friends close and your family. You have great kids and a great ex-wife , who is your friend , who stands by you .So move forward ,be happy and just concentrate on your life. I want you to leave the past behind . You know what you want thats all that counts dont listen to negative people, God Bless????

Can’t wait to see Robert Pattinson in the role. He is an incredible young actor. He can play anything!

  14. Rachel Rueff • February 20, 2020 @ 6:50 PM

I prefer Ben as Batman although I found he did the character much more aggressive than I picture Bruce Wayne to be. Or maybe that was the director?

Deep and Honest. Our challenge times, rule the our hearts lining; it maps out choices how you feel yet without support system- it’s meaningful. Love is priceless and has many meanings, measures, milestone to see if it’s meant myself to mark. Jennifer and Ben was meant to be. She was always there-Ben, was there…. 2,3,4 ways. Life, love, live, longevity hits. You know where home is. Begin, happening, here, know… Its life. Patterns of it. Love Ben! Love Jen! Good parents… Happy bday area fan!

Ben was ok as Batman, but I’m certainly not looking forward to Pattinson in the character. He sorta looks like a pansy to me.

I’m proud of Ben Affleck for making his sobriety the priority. It will move him to acceptance and peace. Hopefully, he’ll move forward. There will always be more roles for him. Wish both he and Jennifer and their family the best.

One’s personal integrity is always worth more than money. Good for him.

  19. Lorna • February 22, 2020 @ 5:56 PM

Christian Bale killed Batman for me. I couldn’t even sit through his version. I haven’t bothered with Batman since then.
From the commercials I’ve seen with Ben Affleck as Batman he looked more like Fatman. That suit put a hundred pounds on him.
As for Robert Pattinson, it’s too late. I no longer care.

Batman does not exist with Aflac in the cape. He screwed up Daredevil too.

  21. Maria • February 27, 2020 @ 11:01 AM

Robert taking over is a super good for the Batman franchise
Hopefully people will want to see it.
