Star Wars VII will be an original story

Twitter and other social media sites went bonkers yesterday when Walt Disney announced its acquisition of George Lucas’ Lucasfilm production company for an astounding $4.05 billion. But this wasn’t the only thing that drove the internet crazy, as hordes of Star Wars fans tweeted their concerns regarding Disney’s proclamation that Star Wars Episode VII is set for 2015. Luckily for fans, Disney CEO Bob Iger and Lucasfilm sources said today that the latest installment in the multi-million dollar franchise will be an original story with Lucas’ “intent is to retire.” Lucas got a bad rap in 1999 when he followed up Return of the Jedi with Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace. Although raking in millions, this first part of Lucas’ prequel trilogy is considered a flop among fans and is often mocked for its ridiculous characters like Jar Jar Binks. While Iger said that “the film is in what I’ll call early-stage development right now,” a Lucasfilm source has made it clear that Star Wars VII will be “an original story.” In a press statement released yesterday, Lucas said that “one of my greatest pleasures has been to see Star Wars passed from one generation to the next.” ~Brandon Bastaldo

What impresses me is that this was somehow kept a secret for what clearly must have been a long time of negotiations and contract signing and luncheons etc..BAM suddenly announcement is made and the internet and the news is all buzzing with this info. I think it’s a great thing and hope that Disney can start a whole new Star Wars world with something better then Phantom.
This is gonna be soooooo bad. Leave Star Wars alone.
Gotta love Star Wars, the prequels were garbage though but lets wait and see what Disney comes up with before preemptively raking them over the coals.
It should be noted that Disney isn’t taking over Lucasfilm, they’re just the new owners. LFL will still be doing what they’ve been doing in the past with only the essential amount of influence from Disney execs.
Wait, we think that Disney will make a better Star Wars…they invented kid friendly…in the minds of Disney Jar Jar Binks was the perfect character…also even if Disney just owns it “with influence” there “influence” is pretty powerful. I guess we’ll have to see. My prediction…like Phantom it will be a flop because the HYPE will be SOOO BIG AND SO HIGH that the only place it can go is down (even if it is fantastic).
Well, see it this way, if Lucas wouldn’t have sold it, we would probably have never seen another Star Wars movie. I didn’t really like the prequels, mainly because there was no emotions and the dialogue was so bland that a conference about car insurance would have been more exiting. You can’t only rely on action and CGI. I hope they reboot it in the same way Batman and James Bond were rebooted. Take the corny out of it, write good characters, hire capable actors and make it engaging.

All I can say is that with Lucas out of the way (or at least not the final word on crucial decisions) this material has a chance of being treated to a proper updating. As funny as this sounds, it is an unfortunate truth that Lucas writes horrible dialogue and directs in a style which can be kindly referred to as quaint. Over at Lucasfilm there are a number of very talented people who can bring a fresh and modern spin to the universe Lucas created.

I’m rather curious as to why George Lucas, who built this mega company throughout his entire life, now decides to sell it????
Get ready for CAMPYFAMILYFUN WARS. It will be all Jar-Jar and no substance, while corporate marketers bicker over scripts that will be appealing to the broadest audience. While appealing to everyone it will become an awful special effects driven movie that no one will like. It will include product placements, seedy capitalist propaganda (and military jingoism), and a whole lot of christian friendly themes. Star Wars is officially dead.

Ive always thought that a movie about Han Solo would be great to see. They could explain how Han saved Chewies life and now Chewie is indebted to Han. They could also include how Han won the Falcon from Landow. I think that would be the perfect spinoff movie. Too bad River Phoenix isnt available anymore. He woulda been good for the role of Han and maybe even a new Indiana Jones reboot. Watch Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade to see what I mean. All I know is, I hope it doesnt suck. Lastly, does anyone else think that the romantic scenes between Amadala and Anacin were the worst ever? I mean I was embarassed for them. Talk about zero chemistry.
People love Star Wars. So its great they will make more of these movies.
Problem is that we are used to seeing Harrison Ford as Hans Solo or Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, etc. If they make other Star Wars movies, new actors will have to take on their roles….and its not quite the same.
Original story? What does that mean? Weren’t they all “original stories?” I mean, are they going to follow what should come naturally in the storyline or are they going to have Oscar worthy musicals numbers throughout the films as Princess PocaSnowella waits for her dashing, but clumsy Prince AristoSpoonful to save her from the evils of CruelSorcery? Be afraid. Be very afraid.
