Vanilla Ice says Justin Bieber’s fame won’t last

Rapper Vanilla Ice says that teen pop sensation Justin Bieber should enjoy his success while it lasts.

Vanilla Ice, a.k.a Rob Van Winkle, catapulted to fame in 1990 with the track “Ice Ice Baby,” which became the first ever hip-hop single to top the Billboard charts. Due to his experience with fading fame, Vanilla says Bieber’s success won’t last, likening it to the “child actors” curse.

He told the Huffington Post:  “I mean, I did ‘Ice Ice Baby’ when I was 16. So I can kind of relate a bit. Sold over a hundred million records. And I had a weekend that lasted about three years, and I didn’t know who I was, what’s my purpose in life. So my prediction about Bieber is that he’s going to go through one of those weekends that last a few years because he’s had such success as a child act. Then something else new will come along and he’ll be forgotten and he can try to put all the pieces back together, so it’s going to be entertaining to watch.”

He then later added that his statement was meant to help Bieber and not suggest he will be totally forgotten. “I don’t think he’s going to be forgotten… I wish him all the best… I was giving him advice. When you’re a child star, it’s hard to figure out your purpose in life,” he said.

It’s hard to tell who will be able to transition from child star to adult star, on some level, it depends on the quality of your work but that’s not everything as strange as it may seem. Vanilla Ice had a few dance moves and a couple of catchy songs but that’s it, I think JB has more going for him but to say that he’ll last, it’s really hard to tell. Backstreet Boys were the best selling artits in the early 2000 and now they couldn’t make a hit to save their life. I’m not a fan but it doesn’t seem like their music is any worse then it was back then, it’s just a phase, rright place, right time kind of thing.

Who really knows what the future will hold for Bieber?? Guess we’ll have to wait and see!!

Beiber is a product, not an artist. He makes the music that the studios want him to make that sells to teenage girls. Maybe when he ages he can mature with his music and he can take more artistic liberties with his music but chances are that he might fade away like The Jonas Brothers before him, and Jesse McCartney before them, and Aaron Carter before him. Once a new studio product comes along, everyone is going to forget about Beiber.

Totally agree with nomnom he is nothing more than a marketing stunt to sell crappy products to teeenage girls

Well, he had a hit movie, hit songs, speacial appearances all over the place, this fame is at an extreme height, but i think today’s hollywood machine can make people last longer in the industry if those people are stong enough…look at Brittany, huge high points then crap movies (Crossroads), and bad low period then amazing come backs. It can happen folks. Bieber might be here to stay. I’m not a fan, but I do hope his low periods don’t embarrass his home country.

I think what he has going for him is that now that his name is recognized all over the world, given the fact that he’s been around music since he was a toddler and he is an accomplished musician, he can make his own music once he matures enough. The teenage heartthrob think will be over soon enough, but he might be talented enough to have a meaningful career afterwards, even if he doesn’t sell millions of albums.

I don’t think Vanilla reached anywhere near the level of success that Beiber as. That being said Beiber may end up doing stuff like Timberlake when the young girls lose some interest in his music. I think he’ll remain more famous than Vanilla who..

i also believe Mr. BEIBER is a product. If you know how the music industry works and the amount in loss they have endured during this past decade due to the internet download craze, you can see why Beiber is more of an investment or product when looking at the the industrys financial situation. If this Sh**y music sells and the industry sees that we can only expect more of it to come.

I also agree with Germain’s perspective.

I’ll just add that Vanilla Ice let the fame get to him like M.C. Hammer did. Bieber on the other hand has Usher for a mentor and seems to be really grounded for a kid. Usher has been marginally successful in the game for a long time so that should help. However that’s not a recipe for success, as was the case of 50 Cent, with Aftermath and Shady backing him.

Usher is still pumping the hits as is Eminem, and both have become studio products. While the latter will no doubt go down in history as one of the G.O.A.T. So yea, its really hard to tell at this point, but will be interesting to see how it turns out. Personally, I hope Bieber grows into something more than just the 15 minutes of fame he is, and into the next MJ minus all the scandals.
