Jennifer Lopez may not return to American Idol

By Alexandra Heilbron on June 16, 2011 | 31 Comments

During an interview with BBC1 Radio, Jennifer Lopez revealed she may not return as a judge for a second season of American Idol. She said, “I haven’t been forced to make a decision and I’m glad about that because honestly I’m very on the fence about it,” adding, “I loved it, but I have a lot of other things happening, and it’s going to come down to me making a choice of what I want to do for the next year.” Lopez, who was paid $12 million for one season as an American Idol judge, is currently working on a Latin singing competition with her husband, Marc Anthony, called Q’Viva!: The Chosen. She’s also considering returning to movies, saying, “I’m thinking about doing one actually in September. I’m heavily into it, deciding. I miss acting – I did TV this year, I did the Idol thing, I’ve been working on my music for two years and so I haven’t done a movie in a minute and then you realize two years have gone by since a movie. I really, really miss it. I wanna get back to it really soon.”

I liked her at first, but towards the end it seemed like she and Randy were trying to manipulate who would win by criticizing Haley, who was really good and unique, but praising Lauren, who wasn’t half as good. I won’t miss her.

Would you please just go away.

Think she did an admirable job as a judge. Knew her stuff, praised, critiqued where SHE thought necessary (unlike Tyler who gushed over everyone, and didn’t draw upon his music background near enough to offer needed commentary)

agree re Hailey/Lauren remark (the half as good poart) but, then again Scotty, despite obvious talent, I found irritating and still feel James shoulda walked away with it (or Casey, who was far too unique for mass recognition of his musician talent)…

shocking she used them to get her “career” going again

Classy Vancouver fans for burning your city down over a hockey game.

Jennifer will be missed she’s a classy lady and knew her stuff.

Also ,thank God it was only a few idiots, and not the mainstream hockey fan, who make us ashamed of the riot. congrats Boston.

Jennifer particularly seemed to want Lauren to win and perhaps it was something personal between Haley and herself that went on behind the scenes that influenced Jennifer. Lauren seemed very sweet, Haley was a little too self-confident if there is such a thing, and acted as though she could win the competition hands down before America voted. For that reason, I would have picked Lauren who was more personable. It seems to me also that some people may choose a thinner female singer over one that is not so thin regardless of talent. The show itself is most entertaining, I look forward to the series each year and wish the show continued success regardless of who will be judging.

The riot was certainly not over a hockey game! And the rioters were definately not fans! More like pea brains is what they were!

Knock it off guys..the lady is something else.. Put your self in your shoes ..What would you have done..

“Something else” is right…there are no words to describe how useless she was as a judge. I’m sure she has her good/talents but judging was not one of them. She was more like a gushing jealous biased fan who got paid $12M for existing. She is beautiful looking and seems nice in general as long as yiu don’t get in the way of her faves!! LOL …

I thought Jennifer was awesome! What a huge improvement over the other women.. eg.. Paula, Geordina (sp??) or Ellen!!! I can’t believe Paula actually got hired to judge XFactor….. what a drag!!!

  11. Judy • June 16, 2011 @ 2:41 PM

Don’t leave!!!! you are the best judge!

  12. Wendy • June 16, 2011 @ 3:29 PM

Hockey is not the issue here people.

  13. Linda • June 16, 2011 @ 4:39 PM

l enjoyed Jennifer’s judging. In fact thought the judging was the best this year. I am glad Haley did not make it. Did you see her face when she was booted off. How conceited.

Okay people…..why don’t you answer these questions, and then come up with your comments!!!
In all the seasons of American Idol, and I have seen them all…..have you ever seen as much talent as this past year?
Did you miss the listening to the same criticizm by one judge and Duh! from another..to just about every contestant on the previous shows, there really was only one judge!
talent was chosen correctly and the contestants actually believed in their talent without having their egos knocked down every time!!!
    wake up guys….

I agree with you Kristen. I was a big fan of the last three and believed whoever won deserved it. Have to admit though I was always on Scotty Mcreery’s cheering team. Have you been to Utube and listened to their studio recordings, absolutley fantastic. Season 10 was the most amazing of all. So much talent. JLO if she goes will be missed she gave an honest opinion for all the contestants, Steven Tyler he kind of followed the crowd. would like to see him stick around for another season he can be funny!

  17. Kathleen • June 16, 2011 @ 6:49 PM

Yeh, it was a really good season of great talent! But, I was just as Happy that Scotty won, as if it had of been Lauren. They were both great in their own way (mostly Country)! I thought that JLo did a fine job of judging, and she gave criticism when it was due. As for Tyler, he just drooled over the blonds, especially Haley! Was he hoping to get a “piece” of young ass on the side–behind the stage? !! I mean, really! But, yes, he could be funny–give him credit for that! Randy was the only one being a bit more critical of contestants, at first. All in all, it still was a terrific season!

I think she is still hot but 12million for one season!! wow, I did not know that. And really American Idol was supposed to be for the next POP star…country crooners had the CMT channel country star one. I do think the winner sounded great but wrong channel.
J-Lo, move on if that’s your choice. Don’t hold out and make it look like it’s a tough decision on wait so the producers offer you more $.

    Good riddance J-Lo!…

  20. Jaime • June 16, 2011 @ 11:05 PM

IMO, she was using Idol to promote herself for her new Album…

  21. Velveta • June 16, 2011 @ 11:44 PM

Same lingo, different venue. I honestly cannot understand what the fuss is about Jennifer Lopez. If she didn’t have her big backside and pretty face, which are a dime a dozen in Hollywood, then nobody would care. She is not strikingly beautiful to me. In my humble opinion, Audrey Hepburn and Sophia Loren have more beauty inside and outside of their little finger than J.Lo could ever hope to have.

The only reason why she went on Idol is to revive her dying career. Her last 2 movies and last 2 albums flopped. Her clothing line flopped. So the only success she had was her fragrances. So Idol truly ‘revived’ her career. So I completely get it if she leaves. That’s her lingo…get what she wants, then move on. With all the self-promotion that went on with her album, her single, the 2 or 3 commercials she had running, it should have been calling “J.Lo Revived” or “J.Lo Revisited” instead of Amercian Idol. Then the whole drama episode of her breaking down because she had to send a contestant home who had a mentally challeged wife. Seriously, when you’re paid $12 million dollars for one year of work, you better shut up and bring it. That’s why they pay you the big bucks — so that you can make the hard decisions.

Whatever…if she leaves, I won’t miss her. Steven Tyler is quite refreshing although I think he needs to be tougher and Randy, well he’s just Randy.
    Peace out folks.

I hope JLo stays, I enjoyed AI this year more than any other year just because of Steven Tyler and JLo.

I really hope she stays the show was great with all 3 of the judges this !! Love it!!!

uh Kristen…I’ve followed all seasons…answer one question for me….

can you re-word second question ????

    p.s.

“So the only success she had was her fragrances”

Do you live under a rock?

oh, and maybe Ms. Loren will be the new Idol judge?

Do you live under a rock?

  26. angie • June 17, 2011 @ 4:50 PM

Wendy…Maybe Jennifer is good at hockey. And it was the issue at that moment!

  27. Olive • June 18, 2011 @ 12:43 AM

During the start of this season I loved J-lo, steven, Scotty and Lauren and hated Hailey. But soon J-lo became to soft on everyone but Hailey even if they were horrible. Steven did the exact thing, but he was actually nice to Hailey. I thought Scotty was awesome in his audition, but soon he did country song after country song after dang country song and was not happy when he won. Lauren was awesome during her audition but she went down hill after that. And with Hailey, when she got voted out, that exact shocked look crossed my face.

  28. sue ursel • June 18, 2011 @ 11:12 PM

I follow American Idol faithfully and this was by far the best season yet. J-Lo was a wonderful addition to the show and her comments to the contestants were good not like Stephen Tyler who basically had nothing to add to the show except to ogle the girls. Him I could do without. Scotty deserved to win as he was consistent all through the season. Lauren was a doll and will do very well with that beautiful voice of hers. Hailey was so conceited and struck on herself I was never so happy to see anyone voted off.

  29. angie • June 19, 2011 @ 11:46 PM

I agree about Hailey being stuck on herself. I was quite happy when she got voted off. Too bad for the attitude or she may have made it to the end.

  30. Jo-Anne. • June 20, 2011 @ 7:34 AM

    hailey was confident…scotty was cocky…
