Katie Holmes sues magazine for drug cover

Katie Holmes is suing Star magazine for its January 2011 cover that depicted her looking haggard with a headline that read: “ADDICTION NIGHTMARE – Katie DRUG SHOCKER! – The Real Reason She Can’t Leave Tom.” She’s asking for $50 million in damages from the magazine’s parent company, American Media Inc. The actual article doesn’t allege that Katie uses drugs, but Katie feels the cover was defamatory, libelous and misleading. The lawsuit states, “[Katie] has no intention of leaving her husband, and is not prevented from doing so by any drug addiction.” The magazine is known for attacking Holmes and her husband, Tom Cruise. Last year it claimed Holmes was “fed-up” with her marriage and had separated from her husband, while another issue said the two were fighting for custody of their daughter, Suri. Holmes’ attorney told TMZ, “Star Magazine’s malicious claims about Katie are untrue, unethical and unlawful. Not only do they cruelly defame Katie, they play a cheap trick on the public, making ridiculously false claims on the cover unsupported by anything inside. Someone should bring a class action to get all buyers their money back.”

Good for her. I think they’re a cute couple and their daughter is adorable. The media should leave them alone.

The media will always follow them and if they didn’t want the media attention then I think they should have chosen a different career. I do however respect her stance on this topic and wish that more celebrities would stand up to the tabloids for publishing garbage and lies. High five Katie! (Just don’t ask your husband to do that he’ll need to jump to reach)

the media has always blown stuff out of proportion. And a lot of people have turned against Tom because of this crap. they damn well deserve to be sued.
we are not there so we cannot say what is really going on. And lifeless as far as their careers go they should not be punished for pursuing their dream, and becoming actors. The media is just desperate for a story so they have to make up lies.

Pretty sure the tabloids had really nothing to do with people turning against Cruise. Pretty sure it is about his devotion to Scientology and the crap he said about Brook Shields when she talking about how she use presciption drugs to deal with her Postpartum. That’s why I started not liking him.

Good for her! It’s about time these celebs sue these magazines for false accusations. They need to learn their own damn business first of all, and keep their malicious comments to themselves!
