Latest Captain America movie casting news

captain_america.jpgThe latest casting news for Captain America is that Marvel has set their sites on Leonardo Dicaprio for the lead role. They were impressed by his rough and tumble characterization in Gangs of New York, so they’re thinking he’d be able to handle the role, which will involve plenty of hand-to-hand combat. Other actors being considered for the part include Matthew McConaughey, Jake Gyllenhaal, Brad Pitt, Mark Wahlberg and Ryan Reynolds.

Not to say that Leonardo DiCaprio isn’t a good actor…he’s an amazing actor…but I think Ryan Reynolds would fill that costume out pretty nice and he’s just naturally funny…it’s good to have some humour in these superhero movies…like Hancock and even Ironman…

  2. beast • July 7, 2008 @ 1:14 PM

Ryan Reynolds has already played 2 marvel characters, I don’t think he needs to play a third. they should get a fresh face for the role, someone new.

  3. Nancy • July 7, 2008 @ 1:20 PM

Ryan really buffed himself up for his latest movie. I also chose Ryan because I think it would be quite funny to have a Canadian star as Captain America!

  4. jake • July 7, 2008 @ 1:29 PM

CA is not a funny hero, he is a seriuos hero. This isent spiderman, It’s captian America one of the first Marvel heroes.

  5. Quicksand • July 7, 2008 @ 3:02 PM

Wow… not a lot of Brad Pitt fans here. After seeing Brad in action in movies such as Fight Club, Snatch and Troy, what more can I say. He can do no wrong when it comes to action. Furthermore, like Ryan Reynolds, this guy can fit in that costume nicely. Also, since CA is not suppose to be a funny hero, Brad can do either or regardless.

Just because he has already plyed 2 marvel roles should have nothing to do with it. It just seems that Ryan Reynolds whould actually portray Capt.America the best out of all those other hopefulls. He just looks more like the captain except for his hair colour didn’t the capt have blonde hair? I can’t belive that Jake is on the list as well as old matt. Matt doesn’t eevn come close to super hero standing as far as I am concerned, he should stick to portraing the dumb, stoned out dude he asways plays.
If Capt America isn’t supose to be funny why would you want brad pitt then he is a funny dude as well, he was funny in both snatch and fight club, I belive both Ryan and Brad can play serious roles, but it never hurts to have a sence of humour. You can have an up tight Captain America, people with no sence of humour usually don’t make great leaders.
My vote was Ryan but I think Brad could do good as well.

  7. jake • July 7, 2008 @ 7:38 PM

Brad pitt, I could live with that. But NOT RYAN REYNOLDS. Come on, he would do a bad job as CA. He already played Hannibal king, now he’s about to be Deadpool. I think he has done enough marvel. Like no offence or anything, I think he’s a great actor, but not for this movie.

  8. Yankee Doodle Dandy • July 8, 2008 @ 1:58 AM

The only man I can see pulling this off is George W. Bush.

  9. mlm • July 8, 2008 @ 9:45 AM

don’t rule out Stephan Dion! the superhero of the north!

  10. Jo-Anne • July 8, 2008 @ 10:21 AM

I agree with you, Jake. Ryan is all wrong for this role.

  11. tammy • July 8, 2008 @ 10:56 AM

Yankeee Doodle Dandy 🙂 your funny 🙂

  12. jeff • July 8, 2008 @ 10:56 AM

Personally I think they should save Brad to do a Gambit movie, I think he was made to play Gambit. Leo DeCap as CA….. nah I don’t think so, Ryan Reynolds has the look but I think that the best person to play CA is Daniel Craig. OK, OK he’s a brit, and he’s also James Bond…. but just imagine him wearing that CA costume, doesn’t the idea come alive?

  13. jay • July 8, 2008 @ 11:07 AM

    no!

  14. Bubbles • July 8, 2008 @ 12:56 PM

Brad Pitt is hopefulyl going to play Thor (I dont’ knwo how I feel about that). For Capt. America my vote is mark Wahlberg, he’s got the look and the attitude. THough Reynold is extremely entertaining, I thing he’s better off playing the Flash if the JLA movie ever makes it’s way to production.

Most of you forget that Cap is supposed to be a big guy, I dont’ see how Leo could fill the role.. maybe as Bucky

  15. fry • July 8, 2008 @ 1:08 PM

Brad Pitt as thor, ha. As if.

  16. Jo-Anne • July 8, 2008 @ 2:22 PM

well, which one of the five “hopefuls” listed above would fit the role as a “big guy”?

    maybe they should keep looking?

M.M. is about as close as they’ll get to big guy in that list, however not sure he’ll secure this role.

  17. don • July 8, 2008 @ 3:02 PM

Brendan Fraser is a great actor and id like to see him play some roles of a hero type. He’s already got the good boy persona and about 50 movies under his belt. I think he’d make a great Captain America…

  18. Anonymous • July 8, 2008 @ 6:31 PM

ok enought we all know that Arnold would be the best Capt America cause he is the best at everything

  19. bubbles • July 8, 2008 @ 11:25 PM

Brendan Fraser is a little girl.. he’s good for George of the Jungle but not for a serious hero role. Even in th emummy series he’s a lapstick actor.

  20. Jimmy • July 8, 2008 @ 11:26 PM

yo, stop talking about humour. It’s captain america you fools, don’t ruin it.

He’s the more serious one out of the avengers. Stark is the comedy.

And Ryan Reynolds? He’s deadpool in Wolverine, an already prominent role in the current Marvel Movie universe, that would be terrible.

  21. Anonymous • July 9, 2008 @ 2:14 AM

    Corey Haim.

  22. Spidey • July 9, 2008 @ 9:50 AM

this one should be an easy pick…Mark Wahlberg as Steve Rogers a.k.a. CAPTAIN AMERICA…

Matt Damon should be in the list too, he did AMAZING in the BOURNE TRILOGY.

  23. Jo-Anne • July 9, 2008 @ 9:55 AM

so, how about just throw Jack Black in there and call it a day?
    ha ha

  24. tammy • July 9, 2008 @ 10:14 AM

How about Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson?

  25. Len • July 9, 2008 @ 11:35 AM

My pick would be Stephen Colbert, but he’s said to be signing on as the new Superman.

  26. Louie Louie • July 9, 2008 @ 3:11 PM

    Colbert’s AWESOME!

  27. mlm • July 9, 2008 @ 8:34 PM

    Jo-Anne on July 8, 2008 10:21 am I agree with you, Jake
    don’t you mean tammy?

  28. Nancy • July 9, 2008 @ 8:51 PM

Good one! Couldn’t have said it better myself, mlm! It’s about time someone on here sees the REAL truth! Where have you been all this time?

  29. Jo-Anne • July 9, 2008 @ 10:59 PM

    where has he been?
reading everything I write, of course, and perhaps “clicking on your name” Nancy – finally you have someone to not only kiss your ass but to keep you company as you furiously pour over my past comments….happy reading you two

    ah, the power

  30. tammy • July 10, 2008 @ 9:24 AM

Aw it’s a match made in heaven…or hell..maybe he like the whole wicked witch look…
sitting with jo-anne and jennie laughing my a** off..

  31. jeff • July 13, 2008 @ 11:24 AM

I still think that Daniel Craig would make the best CA

  32. jeff • July 13, 2008 @ 11:27 AM

And if Daniel Craig doesn’t fit the bill….. then there’s only one dude tough enough to fit into a CA costume. We all know him as the toughest mofo this side of uranus….. “He’s so tough he doesn’t breath, he holds his air hostage” Chuck Norris!

  33. gret teef • July 14, 2008 @ 9:02 AM

Brad Pitt’s ace sure, but he’s too old. Caps in his early 20s when he recieves the serum. Dicaprio…way too small in build and height. Mconahy (however you spell his stupid name), too crap an actor. Daniel Craig wouldn’t touch it and america accepts a british batman, but a british cap? Doubt it. Frazer, that could work. But what you basically need is a great actor who’s blonde and built like a brick shithouse or at least very tall who can bulk up in pre-production. An unknown would be best. Hire too big a name, and it becomes all about the star, rather than all about the character.

  34. KC • July 16, 2008 @ 11:55 PM

Will Smith as Captain America. He has the presence and the box office draw.

  35. jeff2 • July 22, 2008 @ 8:52 PM

    MATT DAMONNNNN

  36. jeff2 • July 22, 2008 @ 8:54 PM

lol at Will Smith as being Cap.

  37. jeff2 • July 22, 2008 @ 8:55 PM

This is WW2, there was way too much racism in America for an African American to be the National hero. Sorry.
Yes if it was based in the present, but if it’s in WW2, it can’t be Will Smith.

  38. Nancy • July 23, 2008 @ 10:28 PM

Hope Spike Lee never hears you say that!! He labels everyone racist. LMFAO! 🙂

  39. Heath • July 28, 2008 @ 3:14 PM

i think Matt Damon would be great. He’s got the jaw for it. Although he is a little short, you can’t deny that he “rocked the S____” in those Bourne movies. No way on Gyllenhal or DiCaprio. Brad Pitt would be good, but it’ll never happen. Mathew McConnehey has he build for it, but as soon as he opens his mouth…. What about Viggo Mortenson?!!!

  40. Layla • July 28, 2008 @ 4:25 PM

Ryan Reynolds would be a good choice. He is a very good actor. I can’t believe they’d even consider Leo. He’s a terrible actor. I love cap and have been reading the comics since childhood, but casting Leo in that role would make me boycott that travesty. Heck David Anders wouldn’t be a bad choice. I’d like to see him in a non-bad guy role.

  41. Sol • July 30, 2008 @ 6:25 AM

i think reynolds would be a good choice or ben affleck, maybe gerard butler…but he is not american :S
and i think suck things as hair-color dosen’t matter…c’mon its the 21century…we got giant hulks, spidermans and so, haircolor is no problem for the stylists

  42. Sol • July 30, 2008 @ 6:26 AM

o sorry…gerard butler as thor…he could handle the accent 🙂

  43. Bodacious • August 18, 2008 @ 4:27 AM

i know no one has touched this in a few months but you guys need to think about the fact that CA is the leader of the avengers….that means you have to have an actor who can boss around Downey and Norton. I dont think a second rate actor to pull that off and im pretty sure it would be hard for a first rate actor too. The fact that people are talking about actors not filling the suit i can understand…but lets not be picky guys. realistically none of those guys can but all of them could get a decent size by the time they start shooting this film. Yes i have an opinion and its hard for me to see anyone other than pitt doing this as far fetched as that might be. I really wouldnt mind seeing a new face come in but once again hes gotta be able to order around 2 outstanding actors who can very easily take the spotlight by just standing in the same shot. I love dicaprio but i really dont think hes right for this role and im sry but matt damon is a faggot. if somehow he ends up as CA i will cry all over all of you.

  44. Joe • August 20, 2008 @ 10:25 PM

I’ve said this on another thread, but I really think Paul Walker should be considered for Cap. He’s not too young, not too old and could definitely lead the Avengers. I think he has the right presence for the part. Plus, I think he could pull off the before and after piece.

I like some of the other suggestions, too, but someone suggested Walker and I started thinking about it. Makes sense to me!

  45. Arthur • August 31, 2008 @ 12:51 AM

If any of you see Lakeview Terrence, the latest Samuel L. Jackson movie, take a good look at Patrick Willson in the film, at 6’1 with blonde hair and blue eyes, with good acting skills, as well as being being born and raised in Virgina, he would be perfect for the role as the all american hero, as long as he hit the gym a bit more

  46. Ryan • September 1, 2008 @ 1:48 AM

K, Captain America is my all time fav super-hero. He’s not a funny super hero but he does have smart ass comments. (read the comic books)But all of these actors here DO NOT fit the part of cap. Brad pit is to skinny and Ryan already picked to play dead pool in the wolverine moive, plus he was in blade already. You need a fresh brand new never seen actor that would fit the part.

  47. bobby • September 20, 2008 @ 1:24 AM

    anyone for aaron eckahart

  48. bobby • September 20, 2008 @ 1:27 AM

    matthew fox

  49. delta • October 25, 2008 @ 1:01 AM

    MARK WAHLBERG all the way!!!

if not then brad pitt…deff not ryan!!!

aaron would be good but hes already been in a comic movie as two face even thought CA is marvel and Batman is DC…its still…just…nah…

Matt damon would do awesome but he already said no to the part 🙁

  50. Richie • December 24, 2008 @ 11:10 PM

I think Mark Wahlberg would be a great CA.

  51. Michael Brockett • January 9, 2009 @ 12:56 AM

ugh… Dicaprio would be horrible, not the right bone structure, plus still too boyish, Brad has been in too many movies, i think that reynolds would be the best, the Big CA really dishes out a slew of remarks as he beats up the bad guys, and lets face it, ryan is a total beast, he’s funny and is built like a super soldier. ya brad has a great bod, but just way too much plublicity. if they want this movie to be made right, they need to use the comics as an example for story line and casting. they did well with iron man being captured by terrorists, that actually happens, i do have a few discretions twords that film but not many major ones. Ryan Reynolds FTW!!!!

  52. William A • March 26, 2009 @ 7:29 PM

I say we should vote for hollywood & marvel studios to have brad pitt for the CA role.I WOULD SAY!

  53. William A • March 26, 2009 @ 7:36 PM

Well if not brad pitt then who because steve rogers aka captain america is blond hair & blue eyes

  54. William A • March 26, 2009 @ 7:41 PM

is there anyone here to comment Y or N?
