Lion King 3D smashes expectations at box office

The 3D re-release of the 1994 animated movie The Lion King exceeded expectations by being the top earner at the weekend box office, taking in an estimated $29.3 million and earning a high 4 out of 5 star rating at Tribute.ca. Last weekend’s top movie, Contagion, starring Matt Damon, Jude Law, Kate Winslet and Gwyneth Paltrow, dropped to second place with an additional $14.5 million. It has 3.4 stars from Tribute viewers. The highest-earning new movie to break into the top five was Drive, starring Ryan Gosling, which took in $11 million in third place and earned 3.3 stars from Tribute moviegoers. The popular drama The Help stayed afloat in fourth place, earning an additional $6.4 million in its sixth weekend in theaters. The remake of the thriller Straw Dogs rounded out the top five, taking in $5 million and earning 2 stars at Tribute.ca.

    Modern day classics can still make money. See, do not ever remake E.T. or Jaws or Star Wars… Maybe enhance them but they are all good enough as they are. This is another example.
