A crew member who was working on the new Marvel Studios television series Wonder Man has died following an accident on set.
Juan Carlos Osorio, 41, was a “rigger” — a scaffolding specialist who sets up the lighting and scenery. He fell from a catwalk at Radford Studios in Studio City.
The Los Angeles Police Department was called to the Radford Street Studios to investigate a death at about 6:55 a.m. on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, police spokesman Officer Tony Im reported.
The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE), the union representing behind-the-scenes crew members on film, television and theater productions, released the following statement from its president, Matthew D. Loeb.
“Everyone in the IA family is shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We are working to support our member’s family, and his fellow members and colleagues,” Loeb said. “Safety on set is our highest priority and we will assist Cal/OSHA in their investigation in any way that we can.”
Marvel Studios said in a statement: “Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with his family and friends, and our support is behind the investigation into the circumstances of this accident.”
Filming had not yet begun on Wonder Man, which stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Hollywood actor Simon Williams, who joins the Avengers after gaining superpowers. A release date for the series, which will be available on Disney+, has not yet been announced. ~Alexandra Heilbron
