Academy Award-winning actress Meryl Streep has donated $1 million to New York’s Public Theater. Streep has had a long term association with the theater, starting in the 1970s. She has appeared in several productions at the theater, including playing the role of Arkadina in Anton Chekov’s The Seagull in 2001. The donation was announced on Thursday at a private reception.  Meryl said: “I give this gift in honor of the founder of the Public theater, my friend and mentor Joseph Papp, and in remembrance of one of the theater’s board members and greatest supporters, my friend Nora Ephron.” Ephron directed the actress in movies such as Silkwood, Heartburn and Julie and Julia. Meryl is currently in talks to play the Witch in the movie version of the Broadway musical Into the Woods. ~ Luxy Hariharan

This woman must command the biggest female actress salary. So you figure with $20 mil ( minimum a pic and over 40 years in the biz) she can afford to give back. Good for her.

I’m sure she could afford more, but still a million is a lot to anyone.
Good for her and in memory of her friend Nora Ephron who made some very memorable movies herself.
