New movies in theaters this weekend – Civil War and more

There are a number of new movies opening this weekend, including the futuristic Civil War. Check them out below and watch the trailers to decide what you want to see at the movies. ~Alexandra Heilbron

Civil War – In the near future after 19 states secede from the union, the United States find themselves in the midst of rapidly escalating civil war. While the President (Nick Offerman) appears to be stoking the flames of dissent, a photographer (Kirsten Dunst) and a team of journalists finds themselves caught in war zones. Also playing in IMAX. SUGA | Agust D TOUR ‘D-DAY’ THE MOVIE – The grand finale of SUGA’s world tour marked the culmination of 25 concerts held in 10 cities, which captivated an audience of 290,000 throughout its run. With this concert film, audiences can gather in cinemas globally to celebrate SUGA and to relive the encore concert encompassing his rich musical world and explosive energy, with special guests BTS’ RM, Jimin and Jung Kook. Arcadian – In a near future, normal life on Earth has been decimated. Paul (Nicolas Cage) and his two sons, Thomas (Maxwell Jenkins) and Joseph (Jaeden Martell), have been living a half-life – tranquility by day and torment by night. Every night, after the sun sets, they face the unrelenting attacks of a mysterious and violent evil. UNSINKABLE: Titanic Untold – When the RMS Carpathia arrives in New York carrying survivors of the Titanic, they find Senator William Alden Smith has hastily convened in New York to ensure the testimony of all key witnesses. What ensues over days and weeks in New York and later Washington, DC, is a tale of political interference, greed, conspiracy, and a desperate grasp for accountability, interwoven with flashbacks to the heroism and sacrifice on Titanic’s deck during that fateful night in April 1912. With Love and a Major Organ – In a world where everyone’s heart is an object and there’s a strong societal pressure to dampen emotion, lonely insurance broker Anabel (Anna Maguire) is at odds with this overly pragmatic society. After a series of devastating emotional blows, she rips her heart out and gives it to a man she’s fallen for, the strangely unfeeling George, who begins to feel everything. In Flames – Mariam lives with her younger brother and their mother in a tiny apartment in Karachi. When Mariam’s maternal grandfather passes, his brother tries to manipulate them into signing over their apartment to him. Mariam’s mother, grieving and isolated, is easy to influence. A Difficult Year – Albert and Bruno, two friends over-indebted and at the end of their ropes, stumble upon a group of young environmental activists. Food, Inc. 2 – In Food, Inc. 2, the sequel to the 2008 Oscar-nominated and Emmy-award winning documentary, Food, Inc., filmmakers Robert Kenner and Melissa Robledo reunite with investigative authors Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) and Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) to take a fresh look at our efficient yet vulnerable food system. Playing in Vancouver; opens April 19 in Toronto and Montreal. Housekeeping for Beginners – Dita never wanted to be a mother, but circumstances force her to raise her girlfriend’s two daughters, tiny troublemaker Mia and rebellious teen Vanesa.
