Black Panther (2018)

With superhero films taking greater prominence in this century, and this decade in particular, there was little progression in the form of representation. While superheroes were seen as solid moneymakers, few, if any, were led by non-white characters – and then Marvel released Black Panther. The film became a cultural touchstone as Black Panther achieved unquestionable success, leading to the first-ever Best Picture nomination for a superhero film.
