Finding Dory's monstrous box office earnings aside (to be clear, it was the top-grossing film of 2016 with nearly $500 million domestically to its name), the animated picture is smart, well crafted, moving, and as many critics have suggested, even offers social commentary not often made by Disney or Pixar productions. Apparently those ingredients don't add up to an Academy Award nomination, though. The film is nowhere to be found on the Oscar ballot.
