Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (2017)

Luc Besson's 2017 passion project, Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, looked like it was going to be a return to form for The Fifth Element director. The comic book adaptation looked to play into all of Besson's strengths with a vividly creative and stunning universe for audiences to delve into for a fun adventure. In spite of its creative setting and imaginative visuals, what held the film back was its less-than-charismatic leads in Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne. Neither actor carries the screen presence necessary to drive this kind of sci-fi adventure.
