Creative changes in films are often made to paint characters in a better light than what the facts present. This was no different with the late Stephen Hawking in the 2014 biopic The Theory of Everything. While the film mostly got things right, it attempts to paint Hawking in a better light insofar as how his relationship with his first wife, Jane, ended. The film presents the dissolution of their marriage as being mutual, with both sides understanding that things had changed. In reality things were less amicable, with their split being more testy and heated.
