U-571 (2001)

Much like The Last Samurai, which would be released two years later, the war film U-571 attempts to be a historical drama, but Americanizes the film. In reality, the submarine U-571 was not the submarine captured. Instead it was U-Boats U-559 and U-110 that were captured, and not by Americans but the British Navy. These historical inaccuracies were viewed as so offensive that then-British Prime Minister Tony Blair condemned the film for rewriting history and ignoring the real heroes behind the operation and successful capture of the submarines.
