Rooney Mara (2 Oscar Nominations)

In this writer’s fair opinion, Rooney Mara really shouldn’t be included in this as Meryl Streep questionably walked away from the 2012 Oscars with the Best Actress Oscar for The Iron Lady. That isn’t to say Streep is a bad actress, but her portrayal of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher was typical, compared to the more risqué approach of Rooney Mara’s atypical Lisbeth Salander in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. Perhaps it was because she was compared to Noomi Rapace in the original Swedish version, but Mara should have been the winner that year. Unfortunately, she lost and her second nomination in 2016 for Carol also ended up without a win, losing to The Danish Girl’s Alicia Vikander.
