Another veteran actress still looking for her first Oscar is Annette Bening. With a career spanning over four decades she has garnered four nominations. However, each time she’s come away from the Oscars without the golden statue, losing in 1991, 2000, 2005, and 2011 despite excellent performances in The Grifters, American Beauty, Being Julia and The Kids Are All Right. However, actresses Whoopi Goldberg, Hilary Swank (twice), and Natalie Portman served as roadblocks to that elusive win for their performances in Ghost, Boys Don’t Cry, Million Dollar Baby and Black Swan respectively.
