Da 5 Bloods (Netflix)

Following his Oscar win for Best Adapted Screenplay with 2018's BlacKkKlansman, many were anticipating director Spike Lee's follow-up film and were not disappointed with Da 5 Bloods. The film follows four African-American Vietnam veterans known as Da Bloods as they search for the remains of their fallen comrade and the stash of gold they buried in hopes of retrieving it at a later time. Although the film can be appreciated in a straightforward manner as an entertaining Black comedy film, there are deeper layers of political and social commentary to be explored.
