Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom (Netflix)

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom was already going to be one of 2020's more hotly anticipated films before the COVID pandemic hit, but due to the tragic passing of actor Chadwick Boseman, there was some added expectation to this movie, with it being his final performance. The film itself would see Oscar-winning actress Viola Davis take on yet another role in an adaptation of an August Wilson play, this time in the titular role of Ma Rainey. Once again she delivers a powerful performance in this period drama that finds the "Mother of the Blues" as she comes into conflict with her ambitious horn player and white managers on the night of a contentious recording.
