Mank (Netflix)

Having taken a break from film directing for his Netflix series Mindhunter, Oscar-nominated director David Fincher made a triumphant return with this long-awaited film, based on a screenplay written by his late father Jack Fincher. Mank follows the exploits of Hollywood screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, a scathing social critic and alcoholic in 1930s Hollywood as he races to complete the screenplay for Orson Welles' Citizen Kane. As expected of a Fincher production, the film was praised upon its release for its direction, cinematography, soundtrack and lead performances by Oscar-winner Gary Oldman and Amanda Seyfried. As a passion project that was originally meant to be made after his 1997 film The Game, Mank is a piece of cinema well worth the wait.
