Coriolanus – Ralph Fiennes

Tomatomerer score: 92%

In 2011 Ralph Fiennes brought an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Coriolanus to the big screen, albeit in a contemporary setting. The film kept the original dialogue, but the setting was modernized, allowing Fiennes to embrace his stage roots while merging them with his cinematic ventures. Praised for its visceral look and feel, the modernization of the setting showed just how relevant the play could still be today while also being a showcase for Fiennes’ skills behind the camera. He has followed it up in 2013 with another critically well-received film, The Invisible Woman, making his upcoming effort, The White Crow, hotly anticipated.
