Zach Braff launched himself into the world of directing in 2004 with his indie dramedy Garden State. Also written by Braff, the film is a coming-of-age story that follows Andrew Largeman (played by Braff) as he returns home for his mother’s funeral. Upon its release the film was lauded for its smart, endearing, heartfelt, charming, and resonant depiction of the aimless years adults face in their 20s. In the following years Braff would stick to directing a handful of episodes of his series Scrubs before returning to film with the crowd-funded feature Wish I Was Here, which came off as an adult version of Garden State. His last feature film was the 2017 heist comedy Going in Style.
