Man of Tai Chi – Keanu Reeves

Tomatometer score: 71%

I’m really hoping Keanu Reeves’ first words on set of his directorial debut were “I know how to direct.” Jokes aside, Reeves’ 2013 directorial debut had him reteaming with Tiger Hu Chen and Yuen Woo-Ping, who worked as stuntmen and fight choreographers on The Matrix films. While the film is narratively shallow, the strength of Reeves’ martial arts flick is in its beautifully choreographed and varied fights, which shows an eye for action that Reeves definitely picked up during his time on The Matrix trilogy. With Reeves experiencing a bit of renaissance to his career thanks to his John Wick films, he doesn’t have much in the way of directorial projects on his docket, but another foray into the action genre as a director would be welcome.
