Despite Pierce Brosnan’s Die Another Day being the highest-grossing Bond film to date, producers decided it was time to recast the iconic spy. The spy would take a four-year hiatus until his return in 2006’s Casino Royale, which introduced the world to Daniel Craig. Like Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight, Craig wasn’t a popular choice when it was announced he’d been cast, but once the film was released he quickly became a hit with audiences and longtime fans who recognized him as one of the better Bonds in the history of the character, even with divisive entries such as Quantum of Solace and Spectre.
