The Darkest Minds

A YA adaptation at the tail end of the fad, Fox’s The Darkest Minds from director Jennifer Yuh Nelson and starring Amandla Stenberg was released in August to poor critical reception. It did poorly at the box office with just $5.8 million in its opening weekend, good for eighth place. The film would finish with a domestic total of just under $12.7 million on a production budget of $34 million, but did add another $28 million overseas. However, factoring in distribution and marketing costs, its $41 million worldwide take still resulted in a loss.
