The Happytime Murders

Melissa McCarthy has been a typically bankable star ever since her breakout role in 2011’s Bridesmaids. With box office hits Identity Thief, The Heat, Tammy, Spy, and The Boss under her belt, it seemed like a foregone conclusion that The Happytime Murders would be a box office hit, particularly with its unique premise. The film would open to a disappointing $9.5 million as a late August release, good for third, but underwhelming. The film would last a total of five weeks in theaters and finish with a domestic total of over $20.7 million, adding another $6.8 million overseas for a worldwide take of over $27.5 million against a reported $40 million budget.
