This mid-September release was a modestly budgeted drama featuring Matthew McConaughey in a supporting role. That should have been enough for the film to break even, given its mixed reviews, but like many other films on this list it was the victim of a crowded box office. White Boy Rick finished fourth in its opening weekend behind other new releases The Predator and A Simple Favor. The film debuted to $8.8 million and would finish its eight-week run a little over $24 million, making an additional $1.3 million overseas.
