Naomie Harris in Skyfall

The 23rd James Bond film, directed by Sam Mendes, became the first in the franchise to have Miss Moneypenny portrayed by a black woman when Naomie Harris was cast. The original Miss Moneypenny was played by Canadian actress Lois Maxwell, who first appeared in Dr. No (1962) and went on to appear in 13 more, with her final being the 1985 film, A View to a Kill. The character was inspired by the real life Kathleen Pettigrew, MI6 director Stewart Menzies’ personal assistant. In the 2013 film, Miss Moneypenny now has the first name Eve and Naomie Harris explained she is not just a secretary, but an “equal” friend and advisor to Bond. Girl Power.
