The movie was actually banned in Egypt, Morocco, United Arab Emirates and other predominantly Arab countries. The follow-up film Gods of Egypt had a similar problem when it released in 2016, leading to director Alex Proyas and the studio issuing an apology for the lack of accurate representation.
