When it comes to the 1980s, it really does seem like the decade is looked upon with rose-tinted glasses. Granted there were a lot of great things that came out of it, but on the whole you really get a sense of how dated many of its attitudes are. In this case we have the casting of Fisher Stevens as Ben Jabituya in the 1986 sci-fi family comedy Short Circuit. The film is yet another example of Hollywood whitewashing a role meant for a person of color—and making matters worse is that Stevens spent time with a family in India to better prepare himself for the role.
