The Jungle Book (2016) / The Jungle Book (1967)

With the passage of time comes the desire to update earlier works for newer generations with different sensibilities and tastes. With traditional 2D animation having essentially been phased out of Hollywood and the emergence of CGI, Disney saw the opportunity to bring to life their classic film The Jungle Book. Despite the skepticism of retelling a classic with very little additions, director Jon Favreau’s live-action remake introduced new audiences, and reintroduced old audiences to Mowgli to much success, as the film became an instant hit, and one that landed Favreau the coveted job of yet another Disney live-action remake with 2019’s The Lion King.
