Boy Meets Boy

In 2003, Bravo backed a show called Boy Meets Boy. The show could have been (somewhat) positive for gay men, as it was one of the first gay dating programs to air. But upon closer inspection, the premise was riddled with issues. The show followed James Getzlaff, who would choose to date one man out of a group of 15 potential suitors. The twist, however, was that not all 15 men were gay and this reality was withheld from James. If James' final choice happened to be a gay contestant, both men would win a cash prize and a trip to New Zealand together. But if the man James settled on happened to be heterosexual, James would leave empty handed while the straight contestant walked away with $25,000.

Luckily for James, his gaydar was functioning and he was spared embarrassment when he chose gay contestant Wes. Needless to say, one season was more than enough.
