Battleship (2012)

Battleship was a $200 million adaptation of the board game of the same name. That statement is just utter hilarity in its own right and unthinkable by common sense, but Hollywood’s demand to find the next source of inspiration for summer tent-pole films led to this once-in-a-lifetime film as Universal Pictures looked to create their own toy-based franchise with this Hasbro board game. What makes Battleship so great is that for such a silly concept and premise, every cast member takes their role so seriously that it surprisingly works on so many levels. The film may have been a box office flop, but it’s still incredibly memorable—capped off with a climactic battle to the tune of AC/DC.
