11. Argo (2012)

Although Ben Affleck's early acting career was a mixed bag of hits and misses, the Boston native really began to turn heads when he took his talents behind the camera with 2007's Gone Baby Gone. He followed it up with a strong sophomore effort in 2010's The Town before finally solidifying himself as a director with his 2013 Oscar winner Argo. This adaptation of the C.I.A. operation was easily his best, and most confident film to date, with Affleck doing double duty as both star and director. If not for the film's white-washing of Tony Mendez and the downplaying of Canadian Ambassador Kenneth D. Taylor's role in the rescue, Argo would have cracked the upper half of these rankings.
