Black Mass (2015)

After a few years of big misses on the tentpole side of filmmaking, Johnny Depp returned in a big way with his hotly anticipated turn as Irish gangster James "Whitey" Bulger in director Scott Cooper’s biographical crime drama Black Mass. In many ways, this film served as his Donnie Brasco of the 2010s. The film was a solid reminder to audiences of the kind of transformative performances that Depp is still capable of as he led a fantastic ensemble cast. Although he didn't garner an Oscar or Golden Globe nomination, his work on the film was recognized with a nomination at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
